Irwin Tools Celebrate 80 Years of the Jack 880 Saw

The distinctive orange and black Irwin Jack 880 handsaw is 80 years old. The Irwin Universal 10505212 880 Triple Ground Hardpoint Saw is fitted with a high quality C75 steel blade. It features a unique Triple Ground tooth design offering up to 25% faster cutting performance than traditional double ground saws.

On 23rd November 1933 Hans Schroder set up a wholesaler company in Copenhagen, Denmark. The first few years were concentrated on selling hand tools and soon their finely crafted handsaws were a hit and they began to make their way over to the UK. Among his British friends, Hans was fondly known as “Jack” which in turn became synonymous with the handsaw.

The company continued to expand. Outgrowing the Copenhagen premises and moving to Asnaes in Denmark where the factory is still located today. The factory has been expanded and modernised several times and the production there today is focused solely around handsaws.
