Secateurs

Choosing the right secateur is important much like selecting the correct lopper. Bypass are most suited to cutting younger growth as the scissor like action creates a very clean cut which is essential for maintaining a healthy plant. For thicker, older stems, Anvil secatuers will work better and reduce strain on the wrist. The cutting mechanism works by the blade closing the against a softer metal on the lower jaw, this does not produce such a clean cut and is therefore more suited to older wood.
