What are the benefits of the new "Star" Battery
The demanding applications you take on every day are also demanding on your cordless tools and batteries. You rely on your tools, so Makita created STAR Protection Computer Controls™. STAR Protection is communication technology that allows the tool and battery to monitor conditions and exchange data in real time to protect against Overloading, Over-Discharging and Over-heating. Look for Makita tools and batteries with the STAR and get these protection features.
OVERLOAD PROTECTION
High-drain applications require maximum battery power. Makita tools and batteries are engineered for industrial applications, but sustained peak demand can overload the tool. Makita’s STAR Protection Computer Controls™ allow the battery and tool to communicate and protect your tool and battery from overload by cutting power when put under abnormally high current draw.
OVER-DISCHARGE PROTECTION
Lithium-ion batteries are engineered for longer, sustained performance. But running a battery until it’s “dead” empty can damage the cells. Makita STAR Protection Computer Controls™ monitor battery charge capacity, and if the battery is too low to complete the application it will cut power in order to extend battery life.
OVER HEAT PROTECTION
Extreme heat is the enemy of ALL batteries. It can make batteries charge slower, damage battery cells, and reduce battery life. Makita STAR Protection Computer Controls™ monitor battery heat during operation. If the battery reaches a certain level of heat it will cut power to the tool.
Will the Makita 5.0ah BL1850 Battery Work With My Makita Tool?
LOOK FOR THE STAR - The 18v 5.0ah battery BL1850 will work with your 18v machine if it has a star on the connector plate, has a yellow connector plate with a star or has a yellow connector plate only.
Why Choose the Makita BL1850 5.0ah Lithium Ion Battery?
45 Minute Charge Time
The Makita 18v 5.0Ah Li-ion batteries charge with existing DC18RA and DC18RC chargers with an unbeatable 45 minute charge time.
Through this two way communication between charger and battery, the charger can recognise the battery and recall its charging history analyse the batteries condition and usage and charge the battery accordingly.
Same Weight More Power
Makita BL1830 BL1850 Battery
The weight saving means that Makita can have 5.0Ah from a battery weighing the same as the existing BL1830 3.0Ah lithium ion battery.
Not only is it the same weight but also you will have much more power and a longer lasting battery life.
